Barbara Oehring is a German born photographer based in Naarm / Melbourne since 1992.
From 2009 to 2026 she has been photographer for her local community newspaper Ferntree Gully
News. Barbara has a special interest in urban Indigenous life and culture which she has documented
over many years. Her love of the natural world is broadly represented in her work.
Barbara was told by the late Australian photographer and critic Robert McFarlane, that her
photographs evoke a sense of mystery. She was grateful for his observation, as it is her intention to
create images with ambiguity.
She has received numerous awards and prizes for her work nationally and internationally.
Barbara has exhibited her photographs widely and published in Australia as well as overseas.
